Establishing an identity sign for a multifamily community can be a daunting challenge. Strict city codes, easements, and PUD regulations often create frustrating roadblocks. However, strong identity signage is essential for visibility and success.
When RC named and branded Avelyn San Marcos, we designed bold marketing, signage, and print materials. But the community’s restrictive PUD codes severely limited signage placement and size. A blade sign was not an option, and setbacks made a ground monument impossible. After extensive research, the best option was placing a monument on an 8′ retaining wall—until we discovered the wall was in a utility easement, disqualifying it from approval.
Instead of backing down, RC provided strategic guidance for the GC and client to approach the city about moving the wall out of the easement. After months of deliberation, the city granted approval—with one major condition: the sign could not be placed on or atop the wall.
Faced with a seemingly impossible challenge, RC engineered a groundbreaking solution—a cantilevered logo sign that appears to float above the wall, securely anchored with pier footers deep in the ground behind it. Now, Avelyn San Marcos enjoys high visibility and remarkable success, proving that creativity and persistence always win!
